General round up of the season.

If you have not played here before, its worth a visit, but watch out for the 6th hole, a true risk / reward hole!

Thanks to Neil Beech and Chris Brannon for organising this event, mind you, its their home club, so expect them to feature on the day, alongwith Stuart Laws and Richard Cockerham, who also seem to score well on this course.

Registration Details

Please meet upstairs in the club house from 10.45am When Bacon Rolls & Coffee will be served.

Registration will close at 11.15 as I am playing in the first group and will need to be on the first tee no later than 11.45.

£30 + £3 for the day, it would be very helpful if you have the correct change.

Cheers.

Chris.

Bonus Points & Longest Drive

Hole 2: Longest Drive

A dead straight sub 400 yard par 4..........with water all down the left, out of bounds right and bunkers to catch the longer hitters. Ball must be on the fairway or green to count.

Hole 17: Nearest the pin (Bonus point available)

One of the signature holes, a very short par 3 over water. Often played into a prevailing wind catches many out with club selection. Ball must be on the green to count.

Hole 18: Nearest the pin in 2 (Bonus point available)

What should always be a straight away simple par 4 often seems to wreck a decent round. Trees down both sides shouldn't play a part (but often do!), the only protection this hole has is some greenside bunkers. Ball must be on the green to count.

So with 2 bonus points available on the last two holes it should make for an entertaining end to the summer league.

Myself, Malcolm and Chris

Myself, Malcolm and Chris played Thornock this morning and i have to say its in the best condition i have seen Gainsborough ever. The greens looked slow, but were actually fast. I have been informed Kartsten Lakes is in the same condition, so come our match, it will be a stunning venue (Hopefully).

As for todays game, the scores were as follows:

Me with 44 points

Malcolm with 40 points

Chris 39 points

Some three ball and the course was not playing that easy!

As you saw Chris, its all in

As you saw Chris, its all in the chipping. Considering i did not hit one green with an iron greater than a wedge, but was saved by the shots round the green. You hit some great drives and approaches, but dropped shots by your chipping. God help us all when you have sorted out the short game, your handicap will be less than mine when it happens! Mind you , i did sink some putts today and left some on the lip of the hole.

Thanks for the invite today, glad i made it in the end.

Short game lessons are

Short game lessons are planned over the next couple of months so we'll see what happens Undecided.

Very strange day as none of us appeared to be playing well yet all scoring very heavily.

Greens were the best they have been in a long time (even though we didn't take advantage much) so it looks like the drastic work they started in march has started to pay off.

Cheers for the game guys.

myself and chris played the lakes yesterday and it was in cracking condition.the fairways had a bit of bounce in them and the greens were holding well but also getting a bit quicker than they have been.

if it carrys on improving as it has been it will be in fantastic nick for our final event there in september

Hi Chris I'm sorry to have to

Hi Chris

I'm sorry to have to do this but I'm going to have to pull out of Sunday's event.

A couple of weeks back I played with Nigel and Malcolm, and after a very good opening five holes I suddenly developed a dreadful shank - so much so that I was nervous wreck standing over every iron shot.  The driver is fine.

Anyway, I played Hickleton today just as bad - something is fundamentally wrong!!

I have read that this can be caused by a number of things, so I need to try and find out what's going wrong - any help would be much appreciated.

I really don't think that playing will do me any good at the moment.

I will, of course cover any expense - food and fees etc.

Once again, sorry and good luck to everyone on Sunday.

Cheers

Hi Guys Thanks for all the

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the support and encouragement but I really feel as if I just want to wait a while before getting out on the course again - Tuesday at Hickleton was just so frustrating and embarrassing.  I know people will say "if you fall off you need to get back on again ASAP", but first I need to get the problem out of my head.

Enjoy yourselves on Sunday, and hopefully I'll see you all at Flamborough.

Thanks again.

 Bloody hell, bad news

Bloody hell, bad news travels quick. Steve, yes, a shank is a near perfect shot and I've had several bouts of these. When I first got them I was also a nervous wreck, so much so I ended up stretching for the ball at address which is no way to sort it out. It's neither a result of standing too close to the ball (look at some of the pro's Furyck is a good example). It makes sense to see it as the clubhead coming out of the desired axis, usually for me I get them when I lean into the shot. Remedy: go to the practice pitch and start purposely quarter swings concentrating on the swing following the same axis and build the swing up. You'll soon be free of them.

I'll be practicing myself this Saturday at Moor Allerton if you want to pop over for a couple of hours and maybe play a game ar 4 if you want.
