This is for the twenty ball summer challenge.

To spice up the summer golf, i saw a good comp on the golfshake forums last year, that i thought we could adopt this year.

Basically, you start off with twenty golf balls for the start of the summer golf, say 1st April

You then record the score you get with the balls until October.

So if you get the ball all the way round a course, you get the stableford points awarded to your total. This continues until you lose your twenty balls.

If you lose a ball during your round, you use one of the twenty to continue

If you have any balls left by the 1st October, you are awarded an extra 25 points for each ball you have remaining.

You must play at least 10 rounds of golf to appear in the leaderboard come October.

Every round must be played with a fellow CGL member.

you can only spend the usual 5 minutes to look for a lost ball!

So for example:

Round 1 - no balls lost - 32 stableford points

Round 2 - lost a ball - 32 points scored, only 19 balls left - running total of 64 points

Round 3 - 2 lost balls - 32 points scored, only 17 balls left - running total of 96 points, but only 17 balls left! Maximum possible bonus points reduced to 425

If we get enough entrants, i will sort something out for the winner, that can be given at our awards night after we play the final game of the summer league

Count me in, will have to get

Count me in, will have to get 20 balls off ebay, when will it start ?

Lets say 1st April being its

Lets say 1st April being its April Fools Day.

So EVERY round from the 1st April that you play with another CGL member counts. This will be league matches and social games, all to count except matchplay games, when you might be going for a stupid shot as your partner is in a safe spot.

If you post your scores and balls lost etc, i will keep the data up to date on the site, with an excel spreadsheet.

If anyone can think of some other tweeks to the scoring system, let me know, but i think it should run alright as it is.

So to set a target, i would imagine someone is going to score at least 600 points.

hi guys i would join the

hi guys i would join the 20ball game if you could use the match play games and some of the home games with your other club members

as you know golf is a self marshaling game and i think 99.9% of golfers are honest so really any game you play should count

hope you can agree

eddie,p,

I think everybody in CGL is

I think everybody in CGL is honest Eddie, or at least I haven't ever seen anything that suggests otherwise.

I'm sure Allan will post a reply when he can but the above rules have been there since early March and everybody that signed up for the 20 ball competition did so after agreeing to them.  To change them now would be silly as the competition has already started and it would certainly damage the credibility of the competition.  Allan was talking about closing the entries, I don't know if he's done this yet.  If there are any suggestions for changes to the rules then we can talk about them prior to the start of the 2011 20 ball challenge.

I set it up, so you have to

I set it up, so you have to play with other members, as it gets a bit of banter going and don't think it needs to change this year, as we have already started! As for matchplay, i don't believe they should count, as you might play differently if your partner has got a safe shot off the tee, as you might go for the big drive and wack it out of bounds!

We will see how it goes this year, but no changes planned for the rest of the year.

Allan

20 ball question (should have

20 ball question (should have thought of this when i set it up).

I hit a ball OOB's today, but retrieved the ball by going and collecting it. Does it count as a lost ball?

If yes, then i scored 32 points and 1 lost ball at Hickleton with Malcolm and John and Paul this afternoon.

If not, then 32 points and i still have the ball.

Either way, a game of two halves. After working 36 hours straight, i only managed 10 points of the front 9, then 22 points on the back nine!

I've been assuming that is a no Allan.  A ball can be out of bounds but not "lost"

what would happen in a yellow

what would happen in a yellow ball comp? - is an oob ball not classed as lost?

In a yellow ball comp it is

In a yellow ball comp it is classed as lost, but this was to see how many points you could score before you had lost all your 20 balls you started with. I don't mind either way, but i still have my 20 balls, but was not sure if i should pretend that i have lost one. Also wanted to see what others had been doing about it.

At the end of the day, worst case is a 7 point gain, which takes me past James!

Dam, no it does not, still 1 point behind him!!!!

Just catching up on this

Just catching up on this thread, especially Al's point.  In my opinion a ball is lost if you can't physically retrieve it - so a ball going OB results in a penalty, but if you can subsequently retrieve it then it isn't lost.  However, I 'lost' a ball at Ramsdale in an area of OB and. although we could all clearly see it in the field (along with quite a few others), it wasn't possible to get in to get it back so was lost.  The only grey area I can see is if you bang one miles off line and take it as lost, play the next couple of holes with another ball and then find the original later.

I'll make sure its clealy

I'll make sure its clealy noted for the next 20 ball challenge!

So i take it 32 points and no lost balls.
