Frodsham Golf Club was first opened in 1990 and since then, it is fair to say that it has come a long way. Over the years it has hosted several major professional and amateur events. Frodsham offers a unique blend of old and new amid 130 acres of rolling Cheshire countryside. After a hard game of golf, enjoy a relaxing drink in the Club House, while our restaurant and spikes bar are open for lunch and evening meals. Looking at the reviews on Golfshake (highly recommended) its a bit hilly in places, but stunning location.

This is 80 miles from Rotherham, with the route planner saying about 1 3/4 hours, but you can usually knock off about 20 mins or so.

This will be the home leg for Halewood regulars of the 2010 Matchplay challenge against Halewood Golf Society. For those that have not played here before, look at the reviews on Golfshake, its highly recommended!

Meet up between 10:00 & 11:00 for Full English Breakfast
First tee booked for 11:15
Awards etc after last group in followed by evening meal.

We are looking for 30 players from each side to take part, with those playing in the 2009 challenge at Mottram Hall having playing preference.

The return leg will be played at Bondhay Golf Club on the 24th April

Ideally, we are looking for members to take part in BOTH events.

It's been noted Paul and

It's been noted Paul and Allan, quite rightly in my opinion, pointed this out to Darren and suggested he move it which he has been unable to do.

I don't know about anyone else but, if both matches stay on the same day, I won't bother entering a GS Open qualifier, saving me the entrance fee.  My view is that we support our league and hopefully, the amount of people that will also do this will send a message to Darren that he needs to consult a bit more before releasing the Golfshake calendar for 2011.

Ged has been in contact and

Ged has been in contact and is trying to let this match slip one week, to not clash with the GS Open. I will let you know if he can when i hear from him.

Morning Girls, Just to update

Morning Girls,

Just to update you all on the state of affairs if you could get to the course for 10-00 so we can sort out the draw, then breakfast will be served at 10-30 the first groups will eat first, first tee is 11-40. We currently have 22 players confirmed, i am not expecting any of these to drop out so we will sort something on the day, i suggest if you can't get 5 more players then that's 5 point to us. I also suggest the 9Th hole as NP this a short par 3 with a couple bunkers either side, the 14Th as LD this as a bunker in driving range (except for Stu Laws) and a thin fairway just after, again as previous matches they will be bonus points, We are all looking forward to the match none of our players are losing interest in this event as for the numbers in our team. Make sure you are all on your game i will post our team Friday night with there handicaps.

Good luck to both teams and see you Saturday.

Are we looking at me and you in the first group and vice captains in the last group?

Also, is it a straight draw,

Also, is it a straight draw, or are you think of splitting the handicaps, so 0-14 & 14 to 28, as we do not want any of your team complaing again about having to play a better player like last time! Also, is the comment "100% against CGL" next to your name refering to being the losing Captain? Just woundered.......

Mr Big's picture

Make it a straight draw, I

Make it a straight draw, I don't mind playing a high handicapper. If they are anything like Wayne, I will be in their head by the 3rd. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

James's picture

I agree with Mr Big, straight

I agree with Mr Big, straight draw.  Who you play is luck of the draw and you either give or receive shots, that's the way it goes.

I'd also include vice-captains in the free draw.  I've been out last in both games now. Even at Bondhay, when it was a free draw apart from you and Ged Allan, I managed to draw myself out last with Splash Adams for company!

The Captains will go out in

The Captains will go out in the first group, with whoever they are drawed against, so me with someone and Ged with someone, the same for vice catains at the end if thats ok Flagpole?

James's picture

You'll have me moaning as

You'll have me moaning as much as Mr Big when he realised he was out last at the GS Open if you're not careful!  I would say there's no need to have the VCs out last, just draw them freely in the draw, but it's up to you.

One other thing: Ged "100% against CGL" Keeley.  Is that a 100% losing record as captain?

Ged Keeley's picture

Alan i agree with Martin and

Alan i agree with Martin and James a straight draw, Wayne had a moan at Mottram Hall but 1 out of 20 players having a winge wasn't bad after all we did get hammered that day, he was ok at Bondhay, and he has been given shit ever since that outburst and hopefully on Saturday your team will carry it on, If you take a look at our team i have updated it after the famous quote of "i am not expecting any of these to drop out" haha you taking Mario leaves me on 17 now but i will get another player for saturday.

Ged Keeley's picture

Ged "100% against CGL "Keeley

Ged "100% against CGL "Keeley refers back to our previous matches as winning my match, also let the VC'S just go out in the draw just captains out first, also i need 2 players have asked to be moved up to the first couple of groups Michael Scotland and Alex Gill, are u ok with this

Mr Big's picture

let me throw something in the

let me throw something in the mix. Maybe instead of a straight draw, both Captains write down their teams and playing order in an envelope and when we are there on saturday we open the envelopes and see who is playing against who.

A La Ryder Cup singles, it is Ryder Cup year after all.

p.s please "fix" it for me to be against Wayne. They did it for Nickalus v Barnes lol :-)

neil's picture

i like the sound of that mr

i like the sound of that mr big, will add a bit to the draw and ppl can get out in the early groups if they need to get off

Ok. If anyone taking part has

Ok. If anyone taking part has a preference, them PM me, rather than adding a post here, for obvious reasons!

Daz grip it and rip it Millichip's picture

even though i am not going to

even though i am not going to be there i do agree with what has been posted, teams wrote down on paper in playing order and then both read out at the time

adds a bit of exitement to it ;)

Ged Keeley's picture

Haha Alan am sending a

Haha Alan am sending a message round now to see what my team say but am up for it. Alan put yourself any were on the list and then me and you will move up to the first group i will do the same with Michael Scotland and Alex Gill as i have told they need to go out in the first groups

James's picture

I don't agree, but am not

I don't agree, but am not overly bothered.  For me, on the previous two events the draw, with everyone stood around in the bar and banter flying as the draw was made, was one of the best bits.

The other problem with that is Ged has said he want us there for 10am with the first tee off at 11.40.  If I'm, say, at place 17, why should I get there for 10am when I probably won't be teeing off until about 1.00?

Having said that though, I'll go with whatever you and Ged decide Allan.

Does that mean Mario's

Does that mean Mario's handicap is now in single figures?

I wouldn't have thought

I wouldn't have thought whatever draw format was used made any difference to the arrival time. If it's a free draw then you could be in either the 1st or last group so you need to be there to cover that eventuality. If the draw is as per Ryder Cup you still have no idea of the order of play as it is supposed to be a secret until the "envelope" is opened and so only the captains would know the order of play.

Ged Keeley's picture

James the banter will still

James the banter will still be there as when we open the envolopes everyone will be there when there names are shouted out to see who they play

James's picture

I tend to think "if it ain't

I tend to think "if it ain't broke don't fix it".  It's worked really well the past two games, but it's up to you.

If you are going to do this why not put both captains a number 1 for a real shoot-off?

Malcolm, thanks for the information, I didn't realise neither of the players in the teams at the Ryder Cup knew what order they'd be playing in before it was officially announced.

Ged Keeley's picture

I will play Alan if i am

I will play Alan if i am drawn against him, If any player in CGL wishes to try and take my 100% record than i will play anyone just make sure your in the right frame of mind, if we do it the envolope way the captains can use it to there advantage and play there players were they think is best

Mr Big's picture

i agree it has worked well in

i agree it has worked well in the past, just wanted to put another point of view. If it causes any issue then ignore the comment and draw as we previously have

Ged Keeley's picture

Adam has now been added

Adam has now been added back to our team so it makes it 18 a side fingers crossed no one else pulls out

If we have an open draw, i.e.

If we have an open draw, i.e. names out of the hat, it is not simple, as some people have indicated they need to get away early etc.

I have no intention of doing a draw, then moving pairings around to suit the tee off requirements, as its just loads of hassle i do not want before playing golf.

If Ged or someone else wants to bring a PC and do it, and the paperwork, then fine, go for it if Ged's in agreement.

Me, i just want to play a course i have never played before!

i think you should just match

i think you should just match up the nearest handicaps on both teams and draw lots as too order off going out ,with people who need or want to go out first given priority plus i think matching handicaps as close as gives a better game for all as a 24 handicapper feels over whelmed playing against a 6 or 8player and i dont think a 6 or 8 likes playing a 24 as it disrupts there play a little

Spenner's picture

I think everyone as an

I think everyone as an opinion on this, but i liked the way it worked before i don't care who i play or how many shots i give or take.

However, with it being in Scouseland, for me it's Ged's call!

neil's picture

not knowing if your giving or

not knowing if your giving or recieving shots is half the fun in my opinion.also if ppl have got to get off early then why not help them by picking YOUR order of players.but like john says everyone has an opinion, let the captains sort it

Spenner's picture

Stu's not bothered about

Stu's not bothered about giving or taking, thats for sure after Gainsbrough Laughing

Halewood Challange   So with

Halewood Challange

So with 18 a side plus the two bonus points on offer, there will be twenty points up for grabs. So in true Ryder Cup style, we at CGL need to get to 10 points to retain the salver.

Speaking to Mario, there is not a driving range at the location, but one a couple of miles away.

Lets try and keep our record of being un-defeated in matchplay comps. So those taking part, play well and good luck.

Ged Keeley's picture

There are a couplr of driving

There are a couplr of driving nets and a prctice area at frodsham the nearest driving area is at Sutton Hall

I am looking forward to see were both captains have put there players to see if they have gone for the points in the bag early or (like Stu Laws) taking it from behind

Good luck to CGL and especially John Spencer who has thrown down the gauntlet so extra pressure on him now

See you all in the morning

Spenner's picture

Thanks for the boost Ged,

Thanks for the boost Ged, should be a good game and a giggle.

I see Manchester United are playing Liverpool the next day, it could be a bad weekend for you Ged Laughing

Ged, we have had a drop out

Ged, we have had a drop out due to illness. Paul Sherwin can no longer play. Do you have anyone else standing by to join in, as we would be down to 17 (including Mario).

Ged Keeley's picture

Alan has just informed me

Alan has just informed me that he has had 2 NP and 1 LD trophies made, so the 11th is now added to 9th as NP and 14th is LD That makes 3 bonus points up for grabs

Ged has informed me, that

Ged has informed me, that they have played the venue about 6 times recently in their league series! If they were not from Liverpool area, i would tell you to watch out for golfballs they have left behind on dodgy holes, so they can use them this time! But as they are from Liverpool area, i cannot see them leaving anything behind!

Prizes came to £100, but we

Prizes came to £100, but we have now got a couple of winners plaques left over due to drop outs (i ordered 19). So £2.80 each if thats ok.

Slight change to tee times,

Slight change to tee times, see the e-mail you will have received for details. e-mail sent so Halewood do not know the order or change etc.

Halewood   Just like to say,

Halewood

Just like to say, good luck to all the team for Saturday, play well. If you cannot play well, get the banter in to put your opponent off his game. Mind you, going by "tigers" typing and admitting he is on the stella tonight, we could be a point down already!

I will be meeting Mario at the driving range at 9 am if you are interested. Its about 15 mins from the venue.
