Course Details:
Doncaster Golf Club is an attractive course set on the southern outskirts of Doncaster. Founded in 1894 the club moved to its present site on land referred to as "The Warren". The course was redesigned in 1978 with new holes being opened due to the compulsory purchase of land for the M18 Motorway. A new prestigious clubhouse was opened in 1992 with balconies overlooking the 1st Tee and fairway and the 18th green. The course is built on sandy subsoil and drains extremely well such that it very rarely has to be closed due to wet weather. The course is a true test of golf and members and visitors will never tire of playing it.
Course Facilities:
18 Holes, putting green, practice nets, Excellent pro shop and club house. Toilets and drinks machine on the 10th tee

This will be our last event of the summer league and hopefully our presentation night as well.  for those that did not join us when we played here in February, its a great course, with excellent viewing facilities etc.

There is an additional cost of around £12 for the meal, which would follow the golf with awards afterwards.

If you can only make the golf, i understand.

Plan of the day would be

12:00 meet up and plan your attack of the course

13:00 first group go out, hopefully watched by all

18:00 last group should be back in

18:00 - 18:15 Change into shirt and tie

18:15 - 19:00 Explain where it all went wrong out on the course (well for most of us anyway)

19:00 - Sit down for evening meal

19:45 - Awards given out for those winners on the day, top three of the summer league, winner and runner up of the matchplay comp.

Afterwards, chat and drink etc

I will attach the menu that i still have to sort out with the club. As mentioned, food is not a requirement, but would be nice to all sit down for once.

I will have to take a deposit for this game, which will be deducted from the final cost. This is due to the food issue, in case we have to pay for all food ordered with 7 days to go, but will confirm this later.

Do we have to have all three courses or can we get away with just one or two.

The menu does say to choose 3 for each memeber?

Have just got back from the

Have just got back from the course, which is looking in excellent condition. We will have our own room with its own balcony overlooking the 18th green. Max seating is 36, but normally 32 fit in with ease, so should not be a problem. Have paid the £100 deposit now, so lets hope we get some more numbers signing up.

As for food, will try and find out.

Final numbers to be given 7 days in advance.

Dress code for doncaster

Allan

1) If it was our function we would ask for Jackets and Ties.  You have the Mens Lounge for your presentation so dress code of shirts and ties would be acceptable.

2) Evening Meal can be 2 or 3 course.  If you tell Mr Bradley how many for each course, he can oblige.

Hope your have a good day.

Best Regards

Leaving the food subject

Leaving the food subject aside for a minute, I may have made a grave error in my preparation for Saturday.  As I write I'm waiting for a courier to come and pick up my clubs to take them to Scotland for Thursday.  I'm helping trial an express golf club delivery service where our clubs are going to be shipped to Scotland, we're flying up for the day, playing a round, having the clubs collected and then getting them back two days later.  Normally they don't return them on the weekend so I made special arrangements to get them back Friday evening.  Unfortunately I have now been told that they won't be able to get them back for Friday, but don't worry sir, we'll deliver them to the Doncaster Saturday morning and make arrangements to leave them in the pro-shop.  Now I'm a trusting sort of person and am sure that they'll manage to achieve this, I just wish they hadn't just phoned up and asked me for confirmation of exactly which Doncaster Golf Club I wanted them delivered to....

Tim, just when you are

Tim, just when you are leading the summer league! I would ring the club and find out if they have been in contact with them yet or not. That way, at least you will know they are going to the correct club or not. Also, you are in the last group out on Saturday, so that gives you a bit more time to worry about them!

Have just got his vision of a UPS van screeching to a halt on the first tee and me desperately unpacking it to get going....

Bendy Ball Paul's picture

I have got a set of left

I have got a set of left handed ones you can use tim

It would not bother me,

It would not bother me, hopefully the others in your group would give you a bit of grace. It would in fact, allow others to finish, put their stuff away and then watch your group coming up the last hole. The overall league winner is going to be in your group, so it would be nice to see everyone out there to watch the nerves kick in!

Picked up all the trophies today, including the matchplay ones, which look nice. On Saturday, we will have the following;

1st Place

2nd Place

2 x Nearest the Pins

1 x Longest drive (although i might change this as Darren has a new driver i hear)

Team medals for best 4 ball

Then....

1st, 2nd & 3rd overall league trophies.

Then........

Matchplay trophy and winners and runners up medals for the finalists.

Hope they have a large table.

Lastely, will have around 10 CGL shirts with me on Saturday, with the following already taken:

James 2 x XXXL

Martin Millichip 1 x XXXL (Darren do you want to get £15 off your brother and collect it for him?)

Gavin 1 x XL

Chris 1 x XL

That leaves a XL for Dan Atkins and another for Bob Haynes.

I think that will leave me with

2 x Large

3 x XL

Which will be up for first come first served basis, unless you want to order one now?

CO-OP also do a good little

CO-OP also do a good little set for around £5! Might just have to bend down a bit to use them.

I could bring a set to

I could bring a set to Doncaster. Don't worry they would be pointing the right way but they do have pink grips but the way you've been putting recently they would suit perfectly. I could even throw in a bag so dont bother too much. As you're the last out you can have a practice as well.

Daz grip it and rip it Millichip's picture

Yes i do have a new driver

Yes i do have a new driver allan but unfortunaly for me i am still a little wayward with it (but longer when i do connect) and some new (second hand) irons called snake eyes which are blades and a little harder to hit than my old cavities as you would expect especially the 2 iron (ask tim, which he said looked like a flat piece of metal stuck on a shaft) which does go well when i connect it as well (sunday 2 iron on the tee scuffed it 100 yrds then hit it again from the fairway 260yds to the side of the green)

i am visiting the range tonight to try to tweak a little and try to hit them better in preperation for attacking tim at the top of the order of merit ;)

also tim i have my old set which i can bring on saturday and then wave under your nose as you sit and wait for yours to arrive 5 hours too late ;)

Anyone want to pick the team

Anyone want to pick the team challenge for Saturday? We have not played a yellow ball for a few games if people are interested? For those not sure what the yellow ball is, basically, each player in each 4 ball takes a turn to play with the ball on a hole, from tee to hole. That score (including handicap allowance) is then scored for the yellow ball. If a player hits the ball OOB's or loses it, thats the end of the yellow ball for that team. Highest score wins the comp, or the team that gets it the furthest round the course!

Erm yellow ball sounds

Erm yellow ball sounds interesting, although i would like to take this opportunity to apologize in advance to my team mates, i lose about 6 balls per round on average so there`s a reasonable chance..........

Just don't take it on the

Just don't take it on the first hole, as thats the record for losing it! Mind you, someone else lost it on the second another time we played it, so there is nothing to worry about!

Do what I do Trev, first time

Do what I do Trev, first time you use it stick it in the water.  That way you know where you're going to finish in the competition and the pressure's off from there....

you need some clubs to do

you need some clubs to do that Tim, something you are lacking at the moment!

Daz grip it and rip it Millichip's picture

how about trying the

how about trying the strokeford format

i will try to explain the bast i can

best 2 from four count

first nine holes is strokeplay second nine is stableford then the 2 scores are subtracted from each other and the lowest score wins

ok here goes

hole      player 1       player 2      player 3      player 4

1             4                 5                  5             6         = 4+5 =9

2             5                 5                  5             5         = 10

3             3                 3                  4             4         = 6

4             5                 3                  4             4         = 7

5             6                 6                  6             6         = 12

6             3                 3                  3             3         = 6

7             7                 5                  5             4         = 9

8             4                 4                  4             4         = 8

9             5                 5                  4             4         = 8

                                                                      total   = 76

stableford points

10          2                  2                  2             2         = 4

11          2                  1                  1             1         = 3

12          3                  1                  2             2         = 4

13          0                  4                  3             2         = 7

14          2                  2                  2             1         = 4

15          3                  3                  0             2         = 6

16          1                  1                  1             1         = 2

17          2                  0                  0             0         = 2

18          3                  3                  3             3         = 6

                                                                    total    = 38

front 9 = 76

back 9 = 38

final score would then be 76-38 = 38

as i say lowest score wins

just my 2pence worth ;)

Has it been decided who the

Has it been decided who the eventual winners will be in the event of any ties for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places ?

Tim fore left Hawkins's picture

Yeah, I'll be third! Need to

Yeah, I'll be third!

Need to warm up for the weekend so just off for a quick practice round at the Carrick on Loch Lomond tomorrow!  Just seen it on the TV when they held the PGA Cup there, looks like a nice easy track - arghh.

In the event of a tie, we

In the event of a tie, we counted back to the 4th best round and so on, which seems a fair way to do it.

The collar and tie regime is

The collar and tie regime is in place at the vast majority of golf clubs but generally applies to the clubhouse and bar areas in the  evening normaly after 7.00/7.30pm. I doubt the etiquette at Doncaster is any different so smart golf attire is acceptable for arrival but not for the evening when a tie etc is required. They have not asked for a jacket to be worn but it would be a good idea just to show we are aware of the normal standards required.

Full agreement with what you

Full agreement with what you say Malcolm. I will be turning up in my CGL golf top (hopefully many of you will). I will be taking a suit for afterwards.

On arrival for those that have not been there before....

Park in the car park, take your clubs with you and walk round the lefthand side of the building and you will come to a large covered area outside the pro shop and next to the first tee and 18th Green. In front of you will be some double doors, which i will post up the code when i know it. Once through the doors, go past the stairs and the changing room is on the left. You can drop your stuff off their, or leave it in your car whilst playing.

Come out of the changing room and go up the stairs on the right. At the top, go into the room on the right, pass straight through it and enter the next room, which is ours for the day. The other option, is enter through the main doors at the FRONT of the clubhouse and go up the stairs on the right when you enter. At the top, go straight ahead and enter the door at the end, which brings you in the same room, but by a different way. I will stick some notices up to point you in the right dirrection. You will see it has its own bar and balcony overlooking the 18th green.

Coffee and Tea will be avaiable for a charge if you want one.

After the game, best plan is to ditch the golf gear in the car and then get a shower etc and change for the meal etc. It will be served form around 18:45.
