Course Details:
Set in 276 acres of picturesque Rutland countryside, Greetham Valley has been carefully developed from traditional undulating farmland to create three diverse and interesting courses, each with their own unique challenges for every level of player. Lakes, ponds, a winding stream, mature woods and a naturally contoured landscape of scenic valleys and rolling hills make Greetham Valley a beautiful environment, home to an abundance of wildlife and the perfect setting for your sporting enjoyment.
Greetham Valley Golf Club (Lakes Course) has improved beyond all recognition over the past few years and now offers two fine 18-hole golf courses (Lakes and Valley golf courses) plus an on-site hotel. The Lakes golf course is the no.1 layout and is usually where the majority of competitions are played. It should be treated with the utmost respect too because there's plenty of trouble out there: it can bite.
As you would expect considering its name, you have to deal with plenty of water with the back nine starting and finishing with holes protected by the wet stuff. The 10th is an uphill par 3 over a pond while the second shot to the par 4 18th is equally fraught with danger in front of the green. This sounds like the perfect place for Andy Adams to face his fear of water…..

If you have not declared your interest yet please take a look at the Greetham Valley Website. We are playing the Lakes Championship course and there are some great pictures on the site of the holes particularly the 18th in front of the clubhouse surrounded by water!
can i ask a question
can i ask a question regarding this event........
WHY are we paying £24 per person when it states in the clubs winter package deal for societies that for what we are getting it is only £22.50
whoever sorted this event has obviously NOT done their homework correctly!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.greethamvalley.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/WINTER-SOCIET...
Not one of the events I
Not one of the events I booked but I would imagine that the £22.50 price is what we are paying to the course if that's what's being advertised.
I don't know the specifics of this event, but any extra charged at any of the events usually goes to pay for some of the expenses that the society incurs through the year. Looking at the event costs it would appear that the trophy costs are £3 (pretty normal at most events), leaving £1.50 to pay for something else. This may not be something at this event, but could be one of the many prizes that pop up elsewhere during the year. It could also mean that some of the more expensive courses we play can be subsidised slightly to keep their cost reasonable.
As I say, I'm not aware of the pricing for this particular event, but hopefully some of the above may give some idea of how the prices for all our events are set.
In terms of homework, you will find that a lot of research is done by a number of people over a fairly lengthy period of time. If anyone would like to query the quality of the job done by those booking events, it may be best to restrict these to private messages, rather than risking more inflammatory posts on the forums.
james  it was a more tongue
james
it was a more tongue in cheek quote than anything but if you take offence to it then thats your decision.
i wasnt questioning anyones quality of job, i know what is involved having organised events before!!
if the extra £1.50 is for the reasons you have posted then thats fine but why are we not informed as to the reason of this?
I'm not 100% sure what there
I'm not 100% sure what there is to be "informed" about. The games are organised, the total cost posted and people make a decision whether they want to sign up or not based on that price. As far as I'm aware, nobody has ever given a total cost breakdown for any of the games we've played.
the information should be
the information should be disclosed if we are paying MORE for a game than what is advertised on the courses website otherwise you will get members feeling like they are being ripped off, simple.
or is there some other reason why this information hasnt been disclosed????
Not had anyone ever say that
Not had anyone ever say that as far as I'm aware. What other reasons could there be?
quite correct james i havnt
quite correct james i havnt heard anyone saying that before but this type of overpricing hasnt been brought up before has it!!
in answer to your other statement, i dont know i havnt organised this event so i cant answer.
How do you know it's
How do you know it's overpriced ?
The events are booked nearly a year in advance
The price we have been quoted may have been the price quoted on there website at that time.
Untill Allan comes on the site we won't know why the 2 prices are different so there's no point in assuming anything is there ?
It's not a question of "not
It's not a question of "not disclosing" anything as you put it. The simple fact is that people who organise the games negotiate the best deal they can with the courses. Typically this is a couple of quid less than the price given on their web site. Costs are then added on for the prizes on the day and often an extra small amount to cover various other expenses. As Neil quite correctly says, these games are booked a long time in advance. I can't remember exactly when, but I think this winter league series was booked around February/March time last year. There's always the chance that prices will change in that time. It could be that Greetham want to get societies in so have reduced their prices recently to try and attract a few more, I don't know. Sometimes clubs raise their prices but we don't pay more as we agree on a price upon booking.
It's not something that has just happened for this event, it happens for all the games. There are a small number of people who are regularly out of pocket organising CGL matches but they do it for the craic and the enjoyment of it and don't worry if it costs them a few quid here or there. It's not unreasonable for the majority of costs of the society to be recovered from the only income it has - i.e. the fees paid by members for each game. I do know though that this money rarely covers all the expenses, something which the majority of players may not be aware of. The society runs on the goodwill of its members and comments like "overpricing" and people "not doing their homework" are not particularly helpful to maintaining this, whether said tongue in cheek or not.
1 if it was not for people
1 if it was not for people organising theese events i would not play as much as i do thank you
2- people loose money on certain events they organise
3- its not going in anyone pocket
4- why is it a problem now never has been as far as i know
5-we all have a choice to pay and play
6- if nobody happy organise your own event at prices stated on web site
7-get on with playing golf with the banter never been about the cost with me happy to turn out week in week out no matter how bad i play
8- why is it we or certain few have to have a disputue about anything
9-thats my pennys worth
10-THIS IS NOT A SLAGING AGAINST ANYBODY
THIS SITE WAS SET UP FOR LIKE MINED PEOPLE LIKE ME AND YOURSELFS
BUT IT SEEMS EACH YEAR MORE AND MORE PEOPLE WANT TO HAVE THEY LITTLE SAY ABOUT SOMETHING WHICH SEEMS TO UPSET PEOPLE AND CAUSES A SPLIT BETWEEN CERTAIN PEOPLE
11- LET THE GUYS WHO ORGANISE DO IT AND LETS ALL TURN UP AND SUPPORT THEM
WE ARE ONE OF THE BIGGEST GOLF LEAUGES THAT I KNOW , LONG MAY THIS CONTINUE , CHEERS GUNS
12- YES IVE HAD A FEW
Jesus Christ, you have to
Jesus Christ, you have to love Rich's posts when he's had a few. I think its best to have 5/6 stella to get on his wavelength!!
I don't normally get involved
I don't normally get involved with tittle tattle but here goes as far as I was aware due to Al being overworked a group of members offered to arrange the games on Al's behalf and I haven't seen anything on the site to say anybody had any objections to these members arranging games.
I like most other members turns up to play at these events and enjoy the good games and the crap games but the banter is always there to keep all members cherpy on the day and a good drink at the 19th hole.
Some members are not getting along at present I'm not sure why but what I've been reading between the lines is CGL will end up losing some members to form another society. If this happens the remaining members will be stuck in the middle unsure whether to leave CGL or stay because we all have made some good mates and some we tolerate, we all joined CGL as loners and I thought a good bunch it would be a sad loss if members do splinter off.
Why don't the members who want to arrange games stick there names into a hat we could all decide how many members we want to arrange the events dependent on numbers in said hat, every member who wants to be present when names are drawn can be then that becomes the CGL events team end of.
So get a hat put your name in if you want to become one of the organizers or if you don't then stop bloody tittle tattling and abide by the events team's best endeavors regarding pricing of all events.
Oh and Merry Christmas yo ho ho
