Have just spoken to Leeds

Have just spoken to Leeds about Sunday. course is still open on full greens and tees. The greens are designed to allow play even if they are a bit frozen, so the ball will not be bouncing miles high. He has asked me to call him Saturday afternoon, to make sure they do not get tons of snow on Saturday.

I have reduced this to 7 tees times, so 24 max.

Nearest the pin in two shots - Par 4 6th hole. Downhill, only a 3 wood to the water, which leaves a wedge to the green.

Nearest The Pin - Par 3 16th Hole. Slightly downhill, around the 160 mark to a friendly green.

Have just spoken to the club,

Have just spoken to the club, who report a light covering of snow (1cm) over the course. I will be ringing back at 17:30 this evening to get an update. If its not cleared by then, taking into account the time people will be setting off in the morning, i might well cancel it this evening, to save you travelling.

If anyone lives close to the course and wants to go and see this afternoon what its really like and give an honest opinion, i think we would all be grateful.

If it is cancelled this evening, anyone fancy a game still? If so i will start ringing round to find a course that does not have snow on it, like DTM?

OK so my car hopeless in this

OK so my car hopeless in this weather so unless anyone coming from Manchester who could kindly stop off in Wilmslow to collect me en route I will have to get my arris to the airport and take the train over to Leeds then get a cab.  This means leaving the house at 630am (gulp) so I will have to make the call through reference to the forecast before I go to bed.  Just seen your post Al, so will wait to see what you call.

IF the game is called off at 17:30, i have made some phone calls.

Kilton Forest is open (typical) and we would be able to get on at 09:00 for about a dozen max.

Thorne is open and would be able to get on at 10am (comp before us) for about the same numbers.

So IF its cancelled at Leeds Golf Centre, anyone want a pre christmas bobble round round a golf course on Sunday? If so post below.

Lets not kid ourselves, the ground is gound to be hard  and i don't think it will make much difference if we tee off at 09:30 at Kilton, or 10:00 at Thorne. Out of the two, Thorne might be the better chance as its more to the East?

And no Neil, you cannot count your drive that will bounce a long way on the hard ground as entry into the big hitters club!

count me and zorro in as well please allan

Ok, so Thorne is the prefered

Ok, so Thorne is the prefered choice in the event that its a no show at Leeds, as we can have the tee from 10am and i have the pro's mobile to call him after 17:30 if i need to. Kilton only had between 09:30 and 10:00 free when i called earlier, so with the interest shown so far, we might not all get out for a game if we end up having to play elsewhere.

Just remember, the greens are not going to give you back spin, but plenty of forward bounce! Its going to be cold and rock hard, but Thorne is the shorter of the two courses.

I have not been there today, but people have been out playing, so they are either mad like us, or you can find your ball, possibly an orange ball.....

Come what may, i just want to whack a few balls and have some banter. Besides, it saves me putting the rest of the lights up outside. Although my wife cannot understand why i have stopped putting them up, saying "its too cold", but still intend to spend 3-4 hours walking round a golf course!

Just spoke to Leeds, hardly

Just spoke to Leeds, hardly anyone went out today and they do think its worth going on Sunday, so i have cancelled it. Everyone signed up will have received an e-mail from me.

So quickly rang up Thorne, who had 40 golfers out today and have a club comp still going out in the morning, so have booked the 1st tee from 10am for at least 4 tee times. With the club comp going out first, at least they might clear a route for us to go round!

The price is still £17 for coffee and bacon roll then golf, or £22 for the same but pie and chips afterwards. I have to let him know this evening what food we want. I asked for a reduction in price, but like the pro said, its cheap and you are struggling to find anywhere else to play...

So shall we call it the snowball challenge and chuck in a couple of quid each for some prizes?

Now Officially, the re-re

Now Officially, the re-re organised event 3, as there is 17 names down to play.

To be fair to you all, as the ground is going to be rock hard, i think you should have the option BEFORE you start, to declare if you want to count it in the Winter 10 Ball Challange or not.

Also Darren, do you really weant to count this as our semi final?

Right. Buggies are available,

Right.

Buggies are available, although they do not have central heating! Yhis means trolleys are allowed if you want to bring your own, or possibly rent from the shop.

I have informed the club 18 for certain, possibly going to 24 in total and that we want coffee (ideally with a tot in it) plus bacon or sausage rolls before the golf, so £17 for food and golf.

with trophies, it will make it a round £20, unless anyone want to assist with making up the missing prize fund with odd change, as i will not have piles of £1 coins to give change to a twenty pound note!

Will have a look at the nearest the pin and nearest the pin in 2 shot holes and post them shortly. I might make up an event if i get time and sign you all up to it for you.

Martin, will you still be able to do the scores for me?

I will see if i have a bottle of something to warm ourselves up before we start.

Allan

Been out to town for a walk and main roads are OK.  Only issue for me is getting down our side road on to the main road but turning off the DTC and coasting should suffice.

I've been gagging for a game for the best part of a month so I'll do my best to get there!

Richard thanks for offer m8, but the roads are OK and just our Close to negotiate so should be fine, cheers.

Ok john, otherwise people will be thinking its yours after your recent results!

Anyone want to have a little

Anyone want to have a little side bet, on the number of balls lost on the 18th on Sunday?

I kick it off, with 20. I would have gone for 27, but Splash is not playing!

Spenner's picture

Allan, When me and Neil

Allan,

When me and Neil played this late September i think, they had started massive development work on the 18th hole. They are expanding the water to completely surround the hole and it looked like the finished article would be impressive. I would be suprosed if it is finished yet so it might be the temporary green on the right hand side.

Thats a shame, or a blessing,

Thats a shame, or a blessing, because if the green is rock hard, i cannot see anyone getting a ball on it!
