If you have not played here before, its worth a visit, but watch out for the 6th hole, a true risk / reward hole!

Thanks to Neil Beech and Chris Brannon for organising this event, mind you, its their home club, so expect them to feature on the day, alongwith Stuart Laws and Richard Cockerham, who also seem to score well on this course.

Registration will close at 11.15 as I am playing in the first group and will need to be on the first tee no later than 11.45.

Saturday September 18, 2010
Start: 18/09/2010 11:40

This is 80 miles from Rotherham, with the route planner saying about 1 3/4 hours, but you can usually knock off about 20 mins or so.

This will be the home leg for Halewood regulars of the 2010 Matchplay challenge against Halewood Golf Society. For those that have not played here before, look at the reviews on Golfshake, its highly recommended!

Meet up between 10:00 & 11:00 for Full English Breakfast
First tee booked for 11:15
Awards etc after last group in followed by evening meal.

We are looking for 30 players from each side to take part, with those playing in the 2009 challenge at Mottram Hall having playing preference.

The return leg will be played at Bondhay Golf Club on the 24th April

Ideally, we are looking for members to take part in BOTH events.

Friday October 01, 2010

This is for the twenty ball summer challenge.

To spice up the summer golf, i saw a good comp on the golfshake forums last year, that i thought we could adopt this year.

Basically, you start off with twenty golf balls for the start of the summer golf, say 1st April

You then record the score you get with the balls until October.

So if you get the ball all the way round a course, you get the stableford points awarded to your total. This continues until you lose your twenty balls.

If you lose a ball during your round, you use one of the twenty to continue

If you have any balls left by the 1st October, you are awarded an extra 25 points for each ball you have remaining.

You must play at least 10 rounds of golf to appear in the leaderboard come October.

Every round must be played with a fellow CGL member.

you can only spend the usual 5 minutes to look for a lost ball!

So for example:

Round 1 - no balls lost - 32 stableford points

Round 2 - lost a ball - 32 points scored, only 19 balls left - running total of 64 points

Start: 01/10/2010 09:00

Draw will be made in April and run until September.

Many members have 'Open Fairway Cards' which can be borrowed for organising games on some great courses.

Reg your interest by signing up here for the event.

Sunday October 10, 2010

This is the Winter 10 ball challenge, which is modified from the 20 ball challenge currently running until 1st October, to see if the new format works better or not. Its free to enter and intended to get you all out on the course, hopefully enticing a few of the newer members to take part as well.

The rules are simple and explained below.

10 Ball Challenge

You start with 10 balls; each is worth 25 points if you do not lose them. So if you play right through the 10 ball challenge without losing any balls, you earn a 250 point bonus.

Start: 10/10/2010 11:30

Event 1 now booked at Flamborough Head! Get practising those low running shots to avoid the sea breezes. Shouldn't be too windy in October - should it?!?!

Saturday November 13, 2010
Start: 13/11/2010 10:45

We will be meeting up for coffee and bacon rolls, before starting at 10:45, where we will play 9 holes on the Commanders Course. This will be directly followed by 9 holes on the Admirals course.

"We have 3 loops of 9 holes at Oakmere Park which can be played in any order. However we dont allow visitors to start on either of the Admirals 18 holes before 1pm weekends, however what groups or societies normally do is play the first  9 on the Commanders course starting from  10.45 and the back 9 on the Admirals course. This is available and I could do that for you at £20 per head instead of £27 due to the size of your group."

So we are getitng a £7 discount per person for this game, cannot be bad!

Sunday December 19, 2010
Start: 19/12/2010 10:00

About 10 mins from Junction 1 along the M180 (turn left)

So with tee booked at 10am, we would be meeting up from around 9am for coffee and bacon rolls, with first group going out at 10am.

Provisionally book for 24 players, with 22 confirmed, so two spaces spare at the moment. Let me know if you want to join us in the cold. We might even have a prize for the highest golf ball bounce witnessed during the game!

Saturday January 22, 2011
Start: 22/01/2011 09:30

A return to Doncaster Town Moor had to be on the cards, as its a great winter course, being sand based.

Meet up around 08:30- 09:00

First tee booked from 09:30

Pie chips and peas afterwards. If you played last time, you know how good the food is here!

Sunday February 20, 2011
Start: 20/02/2011 10:30

Event 5 finally confirmed as Wetherby, a course that holds many comps and should be a good challange. Easy to get to, so travel time will probably be better than some of the trips we make to awkward locations.

From the A1(M) south

Take the exit signpost Collingham and Wetherby and follow the signs into the town centre. Cross the bridge over the river Wharfe and at the mini roundabout turn left signposted Harrogate. Go through the market place, as you leave the town centre take the left hand fork signposted Sicklinghall and Linton. After half a mile turn left towards Linton. The Golf club is 300 metres on the left.

Saturday March 05, 2011
Start: 05/03/2011 09:30

Meet up in the morning over coffee and bacon rolls, followed by golf from 09:30.

Sunday March 27, 2011
Start: 27/03/2011 12:00

Many of us have played this course before, as its ideally situated, about 2 minutes off the A1!

A good winter course being sand based with some very nice holes to test you. Finishes on a par 3 to a blind green well protected with bunkers.

Saturday April 30, 2011
Start: 30/04/2011 12:00

The race will be over when we finish here, with us playing off the WHITE tees, to fully enjoy the pleasure of this course.

Golf will be followed by a two course meal in the large room we had for the Halewood match, where the "Race To Bondhay" awards will be given out.

Also the opening draws to the Matchplay and Strokeplay Comps will be made during the meal.

We have got a very good deal, so lets make the most of this great location.

Sunday May 01, 2011
Start: 01/05/2011 06:00

This will be the second year we have run this competition, so if you have not entered it before i would recommend you do.

Players will play off their full CGL Handicap or Golfshake Handicap (which ever is the lowest) at the time of each game.

Example - Player 1 plays off 10, player 2 players off 20. You record every shot you play during the round and at the end of the game player 2 takes 10 shots off his total shots played. So if player 1 goes round in 80 and player 2 goes round in 89. Player 2 would win by 1 shot.

Depending on the numbers, they entrants will be split again into North and South for the first one or two rounds, to keep the traveling distance down.

To keep us on track, players will have a maximum of 30 days to play their match from the date the draw is published on the site. Once the draw is published for each round, those taking part will get an e-mail reminder to visit the site to see who they are playing.

IMPORTANT

Sunday May 08, 2011
Sunday May 15, 2011
Start: 15/05/2011 10:30

This will be the third year we have run this tight competition, so if you have not entered it before i would recommend you do.

Players will play off their full CGL Handicap or Golfshake Handicap (which ever is the lowest) at the time of each game.

2011 Intentions

1. Revised ruling - All games have to be played within 30 days of the ties being announced, Ties will be published on the site and i will send a mass e-mail to all those signed up to the event when they are published, but its still YOUR responsibility to check who you have and to contact each other. In the event one person is trying to arrange the game and the other cannot make it, the game is forfeited. If both cannot come to an agreement, then its a name out of the hat, drawn by Stuart or Neil.

Saturday June 04, 2011
Start: 04/06/2011 11:00

Paul Sherwin has put together this game of an in house 'Inter County Game' which looks like its going to be good fun with plenty of banter.

Teams so far:

Saturday July 09, 2011
Start: 09/07/2011 11:30

If you would like to take part in this game please sign up at http://www.golfshake.com/golf/view/6020/ or on here and I will change my numbers to include you.

Thanking you all in advance Richard N.

Sponsorship:

Organisations can get involved in a variety of ways from as little as £25.

The £25 I've suggested is to sponsor a hole and have their logos, etc on the tee, in the programme and on the Golf for Parkinson’s sponsors page.

I am open to other suggestions, but ideas that spring to my mind are:

Sponsor the putting competition - £50, their banner next to the putting green, all golfers have to drive past it on the way to the club house.

Provide us with a prize for the day (or the raffle prize).  This doesn't have to be golf related.  Different organisations will have different views on this, so we have to be grateful for anything.

Saturday July 23, 2011
Start: 23/07/2011 13:00

Right, who is up for winning back the matchplay trophy from the Halewood Society? This will only be an annual grudge match, so we need to win it back for the next 12 months, before they sell the thing!

Before you all start asking, there are two reasons why we are playing on a Saturday afternoon.

1. The weekend of the 23/24 July, is their club championship, so the course will be empty after the club match has all got off the first tee.

2. As its their club Championship, we can expect the course to be at its upmost best, as they will be preparing it well in advance for this weekend.

So, we can expect a very good course, to be at its upmost best, for us to win back our matchplay trophy.

The match will be 20 a side.

Thanks to James for organising this event, at a great location and at a great price. As for the price, they originally wanted a lot more for the package we have got, but James got them to lower it.

£36 for a top quality golf course, which will be at its utmost best, with two lots of food chucked in. You cannot ask for more than that.

Saturday August 06, 2011
Start: 06/08/2011 09:30

The inaugural 2011 CGL Open will take place on Saturday 6th August at Leeds Golf Centre and will consist of 28 holes of golf.

In the morning, we will play the 10 hole par 3 course off a reduced handicap, starting at 09:30

After a bit to eat, we will play the main course off full handicaps and from the white tees if they are available (if not the yellow tees) (at 13:00). This is to balance out the handicaps across the board.

There will be a nearest the pin comp in the morning.

There will be a trophy for the winner of the morning round

There will be a nearest the pin comp in the afternoon

There will be a nearest the pin in 2 shots comp in the afternoon

There will be trophies for the top 3 in the afternoon round

There will be the overall Champions Cup, which will be retained for one year, and will have your name / year added to it.

Before anyone asks, a few questions answered early.

1.       We tried many locations but most wanted well in excess of £40 for golf, let alone food.

Sunday August 28, 2011
Start: 28/08/2011 13:00

Saturday September 17, 2011
Start: 17/09/2011 11:36

A new winter league and a new venue to start it off. Its time to break out the bucket and spades for another trip to the seaside. James and Andy have played this course before a couple of times and they say many good things about it. We are playing this towards the end of summer so expect these greens to be very fast indeed and the course to be in terrific condition. After the success of last year’s seaside trip to Flamborough, this looks like being another good day by the sea.

First tee time is 11:36; meet an hour before for coffee, bacon rolls and banter!

Sunday October 09, 2011
Start: 09/10/2011 08:00

Winter 10 Ball Challenge starts at Bradley Hall on 9th October 2011 and ends at Moor Allerton on 28th April 2012.

Start: 09/10/2011 09:30

Go West young man! We found this course after looking for what seemed like ages for a course close to our Western members (Robin, Mario, Chatterbox, etc). This is a new ‘Mackenzie’ course for us to play. We would highly recommend checking out the website (especially the photo galleries and the course layout). One review says the greens are the fastest in West Yorkshire. Each tee has a plaque with a layout of the hole on it, the sign of a course that likes to impress.

First tee time is 09:30; meet an hour before for coffee, bacon rolls and banter!

Saturday November 12, 2011
Start: 12/11/2011 09:32

Time to go south to Morley Hayes Golf Club. Some of our members have played this course a few times, but it’s never been an event for us until now.

First tee time is 09:32; meet an hour before for coffee, bacon rolls and banter!

Saturday December 10, 2011
Start: 10/12/2011 10:00

2010’s December event was cancelled here due to the excessive snow that fell so let’s try again. We know what we are going to get here at Kilton Forest. A course that holds up pretty well in the winter and remains open longer than many other courses. Hopefully, this time we are able to play. Kilton Forest is a quite open course and if the weather is kind you can probably expect some good scoring here in our last event of 2011.

First tee time is 10:00; meet an hour before for coffee, bacon rolls and banter!

Saturday January 28, 2012
Start: 28/01/2012 10:00

Back down south to another new venue near Bob, Greetham Valley Golf Club. Check out the website and reviews of this course, it looks a cracking set up and quite a challenge indeed.

First tee time is 10:00; meet an hour before for coffee, bacon rolls and banter!

Sunday February 26, 2012
Start: 26/02/2012 10:00

Event 6 and yet another new venue, Wakefield Golf Club. Check out the course overview on their website, looks a nice challenge with plenty of tree lined fairways to tackle.

Rich Garner will be happy with this event being a local lad but never having played it!

First tee time is 10:00; meet an hour before for coffee, bacon rolls and banter!

Sunday March 25, 2012
Start: 25/03/2012 11:00

Back in God’s own county: South Yorkshire for Sitwell Park Golf Club. It’s hilly in places, it’s very tight in places, it’s got an amazing set of par 3 holes and it really does have its own ‘Amen Corner’. Holes 4-7 are four really tricky holes to play. Good luck, you will need it!

This is another new venue and a course many have wanted to play at.

Saturday April 28, 2012
Start: 28/04/2012 13:00

This is the final event and yet another new venue for us to play. Moor Allerton is simply a fantastic course, it has many diverse holes and it is enjoyable with stunning greens. We are playing the last week in April so the course should be in good condition prior to the start of the summer medal competitions. We don’t know which 2 sets of 9 holes we will be playing yet and that’s fine as it’s so difficult to decide which ones are the best!

First tee time is 13:00; meet an hour before for coffee, sausage sarnies and banter!

Tuesday May 01, 2012
Start: 01/05/2012 00:00

This will be the third year we have run this competition, so if you have not entered it before i would recommend you do.

To keep us on track, just like last years competition games will need to completed by the dates given on the draw page.

Please select confirmed to enter this competition by Saturday 28th April (Moor Allerton) when the draw for the 1st round will be completed.

Saturday May 12, 2012
Start: 12/05/2012 14:30

After the success of the opening round of the Matchplay last year played on one day Neil Beech and Stu Laws have booked Hickleton Golf Club for the opening round this year.

You will need to register your interest to play before Saturday 28th April (Moor Allerton) as that is where the first round draw will be made. Just like last year if you are unable to attend the first round you will need to complete your match before the Hickleton games.

To keep us on track, just like last years competition games will need to completed by the dates given on the draw page.

The first tee is 14:30 please arrive an hour before for the coffee, bacon rolls and banter.
